Princess Alexandra, born Alexandra Caroline Maria Charlotte Louisa Julia (1844-1925), was the eldest daughter of Prince Christian of Gluecksburg (afterwards King Christian IX of Denmark) and Louise, daughter of the Landgrave William of Hesse. In 1863 she married Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (afterwards Edward VII). She became Queen Consort to King Edward VII on the death of Queen Victoria in 1901 and was crowned with him in 1902 in Westminster Abbey. One of her sisters married the tsar of Russia and became the mother of Tsar Nicholas II.
This medal commemorates the visit of Princess Alexandra of Denmark to London on the occasion of her marriage to the Prince of Wales.
