Antoine de Lomenié (1559-1638), sieur de La Ville-aux-Clercs, held the position of  Les secrétaires d'État de la Maison du Roi –Secretary of State of the King's Household-- from 1606-1638, during the reign of Louis XIII. He was one of the early French patrons of medallic art. There is an invaluable collection of the affairs of state during his period which was placed in the Library of King Louis XIV. Transcripts of French State Papers collected by Antoine de Lomenié and copied for Jean Baptiste Colberto are housed in the British Library Manuscript Collections as the Lomenié Collection.
