PRISON AT NEUFCHATEAU JEHOTTE, Constant: Belgium, 1874, Bronze, 61 mm Neufchateau is a town in eastern France. The town, which is thought to occupy the site of the Roman Neomagus, belonged to the dukes of Lorraine in the middle ages. One of its churches, the church of St. Nicholas, combines Romanesque and Gothic styles and is built above a Romanesque crypt. The prison depicted on this medal was built during the reign of King Leopold II of Belgium. |
